In French Language Arts:
-No DICTÉE this week, students are busy working on their puppet plays that we will present to younger grades (& film) on Friday
-Please make sure your child comes home with a leveled reader or chapter book this week (This will be the only homework form Mme Francis over the holidays)
In English Language Arts:
-We will be finishing up our Charlotte's Web Novel Study this week. Students may have a few chapters to read at home before Thursday, depending on how the week goes. We will be comparing the movie to the book this week in a Venn Diagram. We will also be presenting a "gift" to a main character with 3 reason supporting the choice of the gift.
-Students should read for pleasure in English over the holidays.
In Math:
-With such a busy week last week, we didn't have a chance to participate in "Hour of Code." We will be doing this on Monday. The link is on the "Curriculum Links" tab if you want to check it out.
-We will also be reviewing Place Value and Estimating large Sums in small group activities.
- There will be no "Problem of the Week" over the holidays. NB- Grade 3s will start in the New Year
In Science:
-We are finishing our PREZI of our Endangered Species. These will be shared in the New Year. Some students may need to add finishing touches over the break.
In Social Studies:
-Children have decided the topic of their mini research project
-after discussion, children were given the choice to either choose a country or a province to research
based on the origin of their family
-we looked at different celebration of lights around the world (Dawali, Hanukkah, festival of lights in Sweden)
THIS WEEK:
-children will start their research at the library
-they will learn how to say the days of the week in different languages
-they will find out more about the flag that represents their country - province (research)
***The website GLOGSTER seems to be crashing for us. Some children were able and some were not able to make their poster about themselves. Mme Hunter will try to fix this problem. Sorry for any inconvenience! Ater the break, we will use a different website to make our SStudies presentation if the problem is not resolved.
In Social Responsibility:
-we read a book about giving and had a great discussion about random acts of kindness
-Christmas Amalgamated Project was introduced
-we had a discussion about the difference between what we want and what we need
THIS WEEK:
-we will continue collecting items for the Food Hamper that we will be offering to a family in need
-we will make a calendar including different acts of kindness that we will try to day every day
In Art:
-we continued a project called `Mon histoire` (my story), looking at where our family is from, childhood memories, our future, etc
OTHER ITEMS THIS WEEK:
-We will continue the above projects
- We will be delivering our Hamper
- There will be an assembly on Friday morning
